Real photographs, turned into paintings you make yourself.
Welcome — hear how it works
About the photographer
John travels the world making gigapixel photographs — single pictures built from hundreds of shots, so detailed you can zoom in for minutes. Splash and Dash turns photographs like his, and photographs like yours, into paintings. See the full pictures at bigpix.ca and gallery prints at vastphotos.com.
Best in a modern browser — Chrome, Safari, Edge or Samsung Internet. Very old browsers (like Internet Explorer) can't run the paintings.
Pick a photo from this device. Clear shapes and good light work best; faces that are very small in the frame will come out as simple shapes — a closer crop paints better.
Frame your painting
Drag the frame over the part you want to paint. Closer is usually better — faces need to be big to paint well.
⚠ This is a very small piece of your photo, so it will paint bold and simple — faces may lose detail. You can still convert it, or make the frame bigger.
How much detail?
Privacy: your photo is converted on this device and stays on this device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Button doing nothing? Some in-app viewers block photo pickers. Open this page in the Chrome browser instead, or send the photo to Cooper in your chat and he will convert it and add it as your painting.

Paint with:Brushes: drag across sections of your colour and they fill in a sweep. Both brushes float just above your fingertip so you can always see them.
Tap a section to fill it — or switch to Brush and sweep. In Classic mode, pick a colour first — only its sections will fill. Tap any colour below to see where its remaining sections are.
You finished it!
Every section painted. This picture began as a photograph — now it is also your painting.
Don't forget: press “Admire it without numbers” to strip the paint-by-numbers numbers off and see your finished painting clean.
Reckon it would look good on a wall? Prints of finished paintings are coming soon — for now, download yours and show it off.
Painted your own photo and loved it? John's paintings come from gigapixel photographs taken all over the world. Try one of his, or see the originals at bigpix.ca.
